Faculty/Staff Golf League Eric Bellmore is our League Commissioner. As Commissioner, Eric is responsible for tracking weekly scores, handicaps, standings, and prizes, and resolving league questions or disputes. The league web site is the repository for all league information, including the league schedule, team roster, substitute roster, weekly team scores and standings, current individual handicaps, weekly and cumulative prize distributions, and other league information. The web site address is: http://webs.cmich.edu/cmugolf Important League Fee Notice: League fees of $60.00 are due on or before the first night of play. Please refer to the relevant sections below for additional information. Course Policies: · Pro shop staff and the league Commissioner will determine if league play will be cancelled due to weather or course conditions. · All league fees must be paid prior to the first night of play. · All play starts from the #1 or #10 tee. Any deviation must be cleared with the pro shop. · The Country Club is a spikeless facility. Soft spikes will be provided at no charge on the first night of play if you need to change from steel spikes. · Tee off within the allotted time. · All alcohol consumed on the course must be purchased at the golf course. · Failure to follow policies can result in the termination of golf privileges. Team Responsibilities: Each week, it is the responsibility of each team member to check their scores, standings, and handicaps, and to immediately bring any discrepancies to the attention of the Commissioner. Pre-filled out scorecards will be provided at the clubhouse, but each team should check the schedule, their handicaps, and the weekly prize events before playing. Tee Times and Rescheduling Matches: · Please make all efforts to stay on time and move play along as quickly as possible. Members, please police your play and that of your playing partners to avoid complaints. Record your starting and finishing times on the card as this helps the league dispute charges of slow play. · Each match has an assigned tee time. Any team that isn’t on the tee at their designated time will lose that tee time and be forced to meet the opposing team out on the course and then make up the missed holes after finishing the round. Teams waiting to tee off after a missing or late team should proceed at the earlier tee time to keep play moving. · Matches may be rescheduled without prior approval of the Commissioner if one or more team members is unavailable to play on Wednesday and the other team agrees to reschedule. In general, teams should make every effort to play on Wednesday night or find substitutes to play, and reschedule as a last resort. Teams that fail to play on league night forfeit their right to weekly prizes, but points earned count towards team standings. Teams should notify the Commissioner if they reschedule so there are no delays in tee times. Results from all rescheduled matches must be reported to the Commissioner by 9PM of the following Tuesday to count towards the following week’s handicap and rankings; this includes matches rescheduled due to rain. · Turn scorecards in at the clubhouse (not the Pro Shop), where they will be picked up by the Commissioner unless a match is rescheduled.
·
Failure to complete a
match on time or a team no call/no show on league night will result in a
forfeit, and the opposing team will be awarded 12 points (changed from
15 in prior years), which is equal to one point per hole and the 3
points for totals. Handicaps:
·
We will begin the season using your final handicap from last year.
New members will have to establish a new one under the old rules (80%
the
first night, etc...). We will take last year's handicap and use it for
the 1st night. We will use the previous handicap and calculate it with
· League handicaps will be based on 80% of actual scores over par. Cumulative handicaps will be based on a rolling average of the four most recent scores: once a player has played at least four times, on the fifth round their oldest round will drop off the calculation for their handicap. · There is no maximum handicap but only two strokes maximum may be given per hole. Scoring System and Figuring Strokes: · Weekly matches are scored based on a 21-point system. Each hole is worth 2 points (18 points total) and team totals are worth up to 3 points. · The team member with the lower handicap plays the opposing team’s lower handicap golfer for one point per hole, and the higher handicap golfers play each other for the other point. · To determine who receives handicap strokes, calculate the difference in handicaps between the opposing players. The player with the higher handicap receives the difference in handicap strokes that reduces their score. Strokes are distributed according to the difficulty ranking of the holes. Example: if a player receives 11 strokes, they will receive one stroke per hole and an additional stroke on the two most difficult holes. · Points are awarded after figuring in strokes received and comparing opposing player’s scores. If opponents tie for a hole, they each receive one-half point. The team with the low net score (team actual score minus team handicap) wins the 3 points for team totals. · If only one player on a team plays (with no sub), that player should use their current handicap in figuring strokes against both opposing players. Single players are only eligible to win 1 point for totals. If no league members play (1 or 2 substitutes play in their place) that team can not earn any points for totals. In the event that they have lower net scores, there will not be any points awarded for this match for totals. · A maximum of two strokes may be given per hole, no matter the handicap of the opposing player. · 10 stroke maximum, see above. This rule may be revoked by the Commissioner if the league receives complaints of slow play. · If both team members have the same handicap, before playing identify on the card and with the opposing team which player will be playing which opponent. · Forfeit results in 12 points to the winning team. · Winter rules are in effect. You may improve your lie (move out of a divot, clean/place in the fairway) but you may NOT move from rough to fairway, from fringe to green, from fairway to green or out of a hazard. You may not improve a lie within a hazard. You MAY improve a lie in the rough - you may not however move the ball should it be lodged within a tree, our out from under a tree. You may only move the ball up to 6 inches. · The 10 stroke maximum rule has been reinstated. If you pick up your ball, you can NOT win that hole. Please indicate on your scorecard that you picked up. (You must record a score at least 1 stroke over the number you were given on the hole, should you be receiving any to guarantee loss of the hole.) Substitutes: · For the convenience of league members, and those interested in subbing on a regular basis, a substitute list will be maintained by the Commissioner, but anyone may play as a sub without prior approval or listing. · Subs do not need an established handicap prior to play. Handicaps for subs will be calculated based on their play using the 80% rule (same as the table for the first night of play for league members). · Subs are not eligible for weekly league prizes, such as long drive, closest to the pin, etc. Seniors: · Members who are 70 years of age or older as of the first night of league play are considered seniors. · At their option, seniors may play from the gold tees. · Members playing from the gold tees are ineligible for the long drive prize. Prizes: · There are two types of prizes awarded: final team standings prizes are awarded in cash, and weekly prizes are awarded as credit at the Pro Shop (redeemable at any time throughout the season). Of the league fee, $10 goes towards the team standings cash prize, and $20 goes towards the weekly prize credits.
· In the event of ties for weekly low net prizes, the amount of the next lower prize(s) is added and the total split equally between the individuals who tie. For example, if two individuals tie for 1st, prize money for 1st and 2nd place will be added together and each individual will receive half of the total; if 3 individuals tie for 1st, prize money for 1st, and 2ndplaces will be added and split. · The weekly holes for the closest to the pin, long drive, and long putt prizes, and a prize that rotates between a second weekly CTP, LD, or LP, will be announced in advance on the web site and indicated on the score cards. · Pro shop credits must be redeemed before October 31or these monies will be forfeited to the league. There is NO carry over into next year. League Playoff: · The last week of the season is reserved for the league playoff for determination of final team standings for the cash prizes. The season will be divided into two halves with the top 2 teams from each half playing each other to determine 1st through 4th place on the final night.
·
Should a team be in the top two spots in both halves; the next team in the standings for the second half is in the playoffs.
·
Ties to determine who is in or out of the playoffs are settled by head
to head scores.
·
Final standings for the
cash prizes will be based on the playoff matches.
The winners of the two halves play to determine 1st and 2nd while the
two second place teams play to determine 3rd and 4th. The points earned during the playoff matches determine the winners
and final places; points from the season do not matter. · In the event of ties, an immediate sudden death playoff using standard league handicaps and rules will be used to determine the final standings. · Additional information on the league cookout arrangements will be presented at a later date. |
