The
Online Center is a special service available only to students in
Off-Campus program courses and in English 101. The process is quite
simple: you submit written pages via the linked form; we respond
with comments, feedback, and suggestions. Please read the information below before submitting.
Welcome! We look
forward to working with you!
Guidelines
-
One submission at a time (approximately two days)
-
Only submissions from ENG 101 and off-campus programs will be reviewed
-
Return within two business days
-
50 minute sessions (Generally, we can comment on up to 10 pages
per session. If time is available, for longer papers, we will
devote up to two sessions.)
-
Check due dates: allow time to get the paper back and
make changes
-
Maximum document size is 2.3mb.
How to Submit
1)
Save your writing as a Microsoft Word .doc file, Rich Text .rtf or as a Text .txt
file. Documents not submitted in these file types will not be reviewed.
2)
Click on the Online Form link (below) and enter the WC Online
username and password (not your CMU ID and Password):
-
Username: writingcenter
-
Password: wconline
4)
Fill out the form, attach your document (“Browse”), and “Submit.”
You must use the online form for each submission.
5)
You will get the paper back, attached as a Word (.doc) document. The
comments should appear in the right margin. If not visible, go to
“View,” click “Print Layout;” next, go to "Review" click drop-down menu "Final Showing Markup" and check "Comments" (Word 2007). For earlier versions of Word, go to "View" and check “Markup” or "Comments."
6)
Revise your work, applying suggestions throughout your paper.
-
We highly recommend that you read your paper aloud, with the
comments in mind, while revising and editing. Hearing the words
substantially increases the likelihood of catching problem
areas.
-
We ask that you address recurring issues throughout your entire paper
(including any pages not yet reviewed) before resubmitting.
This will speed up your time for completing the project, help you become
more self-aware of your patterns and habits, and be better able to self-monitor
in future.
